Snippets & Snapshots | March & April 2014

Little unconventional, but I wanted to spread the photo onslaught. I've left out any from my birthday & upcoming life posts, so repeats are at a minimum.
- So sit back, and enjoy the photos that made it into my monthly montage.

Despite there being a few do's, these are all I have to show for it. Photos took a back seat.
DW I'm still going Snapchat strong.
Double the month, double the food.

Recipe | 'The Bam' Cocktail

SO. It's the 20th anniversary of my day of birth, WOAH, and in honour of this occasion, ima blog something very grownup - a cocktail recipe.

For my 18th birthday, I hosted a dinner party of Chinese food and cake; but it wouldn't have been an 18th without celebrating with my first legal drink! Avec friends, I started to experiment, and a few duds later we came up with ‘The Bam’ (Bam is their nickname for me). We cannot take all the credit though, as it is essentially a ‘Mickey Mouse’ with added spirit, it is therefore very easy to make without alcohol and would still be delish.

'The Bam'

Ingredients - Do experiment with flavours, but the basic recipe is as follows

·         Juice,I used
2/5 Tropical
2/5 Orange                         4/6 of the drink
1/5 Pineapple

·         Grenadine  1/6
Adds essential sweetness to an otherwise, sour drink
Crowd pleaser, creates a layered ‘sunset’ effect

·         Spirit (optional) 1/6
Easy to leave out, and adjust to taste (add less/more)
Can be any spirit, use your personal preference. E.g. ‘Vodka’ to not alter flavour,’ Malibu’ to add a coconut/holiday twist

·         Ice
Essential to any cocktail

·         Straws/Umbrellas/Mixers
Doesn't look the same without
Straws mean whilst drinking you don’t effect the unique layers

Method
Pour the juice, spirit and ice. Make sure to add the grenadine last and don’t mix it afterwards to keep the layers prominent. + Accessories and voila!

Today I look at you through 20 year old eyes - is it me or are things moving slower?
Oh wait, maybe that's 'The-Bam-effect'

P.S. This is pre-written. 18+, Drink responsibly.

Take Note | Look who's on TV!

This may be considered a random one, but I'm here to highlight a recent TV show.

The first installment of 'Wanted - A Family Of My Own' over on ITV1 last thursday, features family friends of mine. Does this mean, that I'm in w celebs?

They are both an inspiration, and deserve all the praise they get - Through the strength of their faith and characters, there have fostered more than a hundred children, and still going strong.
I feel privileged to call them friends, celebrate both their achievements and adore their current bubba boy - Joshua.
Obviously, I'm biased, but it truly is a program that warms the heart

If you don't have the 45 or so minutes to spare for the program, I really would urge you to take a look at the subsequent newspaper article here, they really are southern stars.

It's easy to watch/read/listen to the news, and feel very pessimistic, but positive documentaries like this restore my faith in humanity. & int he cute.

Colour | 'Pining for PASTEL'

Pastel is a trend that comes back with vengeance each spring. Due to my pale skin and hair combo, I used to shy away from it. But with closer inspection, it seems I've built quite the collection.

Take Note | Lisa Eldridge's DFMA Course Giveaway!

The makeup Industry is one that I think of in awe, but only from the opposite side of a youtube video, or as a reader of blogs and magazines. It hadn't crossed my mind to study it, because as far as I was concerned, it was all out there to learn through my finger tips. Then my cousin alerted me to Lisa Eldridge's, aka the all knowing, recent competition; oh and boy is it tempting.
With a chance to win a spot on a makeup artistry course, this is an example of makeup, I did purely for the sake of makeup. I realised this has happened more and more frequently through the past couple of years, as my passion for makeup has grown. From seeing my face routine as a chore, to hide those pesky spots, I see it now as a beloved hobby; art? Painting my face if you like. And anyone else willing.

My entry
'The Inverted Twiggy'
My goal - to bring a classic/recognisable look into a more modern makeup
; a tried and tested trick I've learnt from the beauty world

An icon in the 60s, twiggy is arguably one of the first supermodels. The most iconic photo that I remember of her is in makeup similair to this, and that ever so famous pixie crop. In the interest of my sanity, I brushed the scissors aside. But I still I love the look, and decided to emulate the makeup. I thought the usual teardrop shape cut crease was a little to harsh, instead I diagonally mirrored the shape on the bottom lash line; did I pull it off? The eyeliner also makes for a slight eygyptian vibe. Although I wouldn't call this all that 'wearable', I would definitely pull it out for fancy dress or occasions calling for more out there makeup - let's hope fancy dress 21st's will soon be on the cards. To echo the theme in the rest of my gettup; I wore my forgotten collared shift dress and did my hair w a half up/down, synchronized curl do.

The competition runs until my birthday, and all you have to do is photograph any makeup look you've done, and are proud of. Facebook based, link to her blog post explaining it all in detail here

Current Loves | 'Copper Lids'

As any long term readers know, I am crazy for orange.
That love has now stretched as far as the paint on our kitchen walls, and a starring new feature in my makeup.

Life | 'Teenage Dirtbag'

This post was inspired by a top I bought back in January. Yes, I joined the 'parental guidance' band wagon.

I decided that this would be a good sequel to my recent 'teenage dream' post. People aren't perfect, teenagers often less so than others. But that's alright, that's human, and that's how you know not to do such things in the future. Like getting your best mates to do your longer than shoulder length hair with one box of bleach - for example.

If there was a time to experiment with your sense of style, pull stupid faces, and generally embaress yourself - that time has teen written all over it. This post goes past the realms of usually perks - like, no bedtime, and getting to eat whatever I please without having to ask.

Top 5
ft moments, maybe not considered photo album ready
'Amber: 10, going on 20. Raw, uncut, 12A'
Buckle up, it's not going to be a very bumpy ride.

All things Hair
My hair took most of my experimental toll. I've gone from almost black, to ginger, to red, to an unfortunate canary white/yellow/brown striped do. Styles ranging from bob, to full fringe, extentions, & everything inbetween.

Life | 'Teenage Dream'

Approaching my 20th birthday, has brought out the reminiscing in me. I grew to a statuesque 5ft3, made it through 'big girl school', and a major peak? I no longer have a bed time.

10 years is a long time to cram into one post, so think of these as sneak peak of 'Amber; 10, going on 20'

A few subjects stand out, and I tried to include me at a range of ages. OBV, there is less to chose from in the earlier years, & absolutely diamond's will be missed out. I also tried to keep the speech to a minimum, short & sweet points, otherwise I ramble all day.
Everyone has ups and downs, but this post has a definite positive vibe; why dwell?

Most photos feature me, with gems by my side; embrace the questionable hair, outfits, and expressions -
A 'where's wally' for those who don't know me so well :)

Family
I won't make this into an Oscar speech, but I really wouldn't be who I am without my family. They've seen me through struggles, and illness, with endless kindness and tremendous patience. They're also a major reason why I succeed, and have enjoyed such an amazing and uplifting decade (& on). The merit to a solid, reliable, support structure, through both friends and family, should never be underestimated. I am truly thankful. Mush over.

Outfit | 'American Apparel?'

Half way through my 'Outfit's, featuring items I bought in my March trip to Manchester.

Thursday 3rd April 2014

'American Apparel' esc. Comfort. Dupe?
My drop price alternative to the ever so famous 'easy jeans', a cousin to my beloved 'striped, sleeved, crop', and an almost identical imitation of the white lined 'zip hoody'. = A walking, talking, mirage of their website.

Outfit | 'To Tweed Or Not To Tweed'

Another of my 'Outfit's, featuring items I bought in my March trip to Manchester.

Monday 31st March 2014
Smartening up my act

In one charity shop, we came across a Zara hotspot, all of which took my fancy, and I subsequently tried on. 1 blazer, I fell in love with instantly, 1 was whay to big and shoulderpadded - so I couldn't even say was 'oversized'; and this one. The name of this post expresses exactly how I feel about this jacket.
